 Re: incubator Help
I also have a sportsman. The first thing I did was go on GQF's website and print the instruction manual. Mine is an older one, it has the electronic thermostat with a wafer backup. The manual shows how to calibrate them. Once you get the temp to stabilize you will have to figure out how many of the vents in the back need to be either opened or closed to get the humidity correct. Where I live its super dry so I can only have one open on top and bottom you may need more if it is more humid where you live. I have found that I need to have a good and easy to read thermometer/humidity monitor inside the cabinet. It makes all the difference. I also have trouble keeping enough humidity inside the cabinet so I put as many pans of water as I can fit on the shelf. Surface area is the key to humidity. The more surface area the higher the humidity. If you don't have it you might want to look into the auto humidity deal you can buy from GQF, might make your life a little easier. I only hatched 24 chicks in mine this year. Last year over 300. I have so many broody hens I just let them do the work for me now.
