 Hatching Geese
I'm late on this question/statement.
I've 6 Geese eggs in the incubator right now. We also have 2 Geese setting eggs as well (Grey Pom and Non-tufted Roman).
Just wanted to know if anyone knew any tricks of the trade with incubating Geese eggs.

 Re: Hatching Geese
Sorry Doc, I dont really have experence with incubating Goose eggs.
We were only able to get one clutch of eggs from our 2yr old Giant Dewlap Toulouse pair, the Goose (Athena) hatched them. We only got the one clutch. A coyote and the Titus (the gander) had a disagreement.
Titus keep the coyote from getting Athena, who was setting on her eggs. Titus died a few days later from the injuries. I got the coyote two day after the attack. Titus was a good boy. I miss my geese.
Anyways, best of luck and i would be interest in hearing how it goes.

 Re: Hatching Geese
I mist eggs once a day for first week then just keep water tray full. When I did this I would hatch most all in a styrofoam incubator. I would stuff them under one of your ducks Doc.

 Re: Hatching Geese
I would let the Nankins hatch them.

 Re: Hatching Geese
Well, I know geese are hard!!!
Really, though, they work out better in a dedicated goose egg incubator than a chicken incubator adapted to geese. You can use hens, but you have to turn and mist the eggs yourselves. The goose will do a good job herself, except this is problematic as well. I have been trying now for 2 years and I only have 3 goslings to show for it. My problem is the geese always share nests, which causes the obvious problem of uneven hatching days, and too many eggs too cover well. I'm reluctant to split them down to single pairs because it seems to me the fertility is better when I keep them in a group. I think I may have to go down to single pairs though next year. I can't afford a goose egg incubator right now. I talked to a goose breeder recently who told me pretty much what I just said, buy a goose egg incubator, or only keep them in pairs.
I like my geese much better than our muscovys-much less messy, and they don't bother the chickens. They also only need fed in snowy winters, aside from some grain now and then. Unfortunately, they don't breed like rats like muscovys do!! I have tufted romans and American buffs myself.

 Re: Hatching Geese
Y'all said about what I expected to hear..... including finch. LOL.
I've been watching the setting geese: one is on the ground and one in a barrell. I know I'm going to need to get some Sevin dust and take care of the eggs on the ground.
Unlike chickens they get off the eggs at the drop of a hat. Go to the pond. Bathe. Come back all wet and cover the eggs again. The eggs are basically buried into the ground and covered with all manner of feathers, leaves, dirt, etc.
I had thought of letting the Muscovies do it!
Thanks for all the advice.
