Post First Game - Grey Stag
A fellow that I had recently met was making some space for other games that he was getting. He gave me a sweet deal, so I picked up a grey stag and 5 hens from him... I believe the stag has a little bit of hatch blood in him.. but, in my opinion, he's pretty nice! Comments? Suggestions? I'm a Game Newby! :ck))

He looks nice and with those green legs you could be right about there being some hatch in the family tree :D Are the hens green legged as well? The head shot there looks like a straight comb hen, any idea if the rooster was straight combed pre-dub?

Post Re: First Game - Grey Stag
Whenever I was at his place picking out hens to go with the stag, his girlfriend was writing down the bloodline information for me. Unfortunately, I have since lost it.. But he did e-mail it to me! However, some of the words were misspelled..

Quote:
1 sweater 1 1/2 blue face 1/2 mclan 2 1/2 bates hatch 1/2 mclan 1 1/2 claret 1/2 hatch..

So I'm assuming that of the five hens...

One is a Sweater
One is half blue face, and half McClain(?)
Two are half Bates Hatch and half McClain(?)
And the last one is half Hatch and half Claret..

I don't know if this would be a good breeding group or not.. or for what reasons.. But they will tide me over until those Greys and Blues hatch out! lol

For just starting out it doesn't really matter. You will find what you like as you start raising them. The blueface, McLean, and Bates are all breeds of Hatch fowl. You can go to our wiki to read some histories of all of these lines if you want to know more about them. They do look very nice to me though. Welcome to the site by the way! ;)

you can pretty much guarantee any grey with green legs has hatch blood in it, a lot of the famous greys are hatch/grey's.. in my opinion it just makes 'em more prettier on the eyes, Nothing beats a green legged silver grey (though the goldens and other types of grey's i'll take anyday as well) ;)

Nice birds.

that stag was a straight comb stag...if you look at the top of the head you can tell trimmed or not... a pea comb will not devide the feathers on top of the head...a straight comb will s look at him and you will see what im trying to say......also beautiful satg....yfis elijah :ck

Along with you can tell by looking where the comb WAS.. if it's all the way to the back of their head (or close) It was most likely a straight comb, If it stops before their eyes.. Peacomb.

Never have seen any of the other combs dubbed though..

ETA: After looking at your reply more we pretty much said the same thing, i wasn't thinking correctly ;).
