Post Satsumadori
To my knowledge there are no Satsumadori in the United States: if there were this post would not be necessary.

I would like to try and "make" one since it does not look like I will have the opportunity to import the real deal anytime within the foreseeable future. I have talked with china concerning her satsuma project.
I am thinking of using the following breeds. I will also state my reasoning. Any comments would be appreciated.

Buff Shamo: all the sites say that Shamo is in the background of the Satsumadori
BBR Cubalaya: this will get the double tail
Asil

As I see the Satsumadori pictures and read the Std. Julia wrote for them I envision an Asil type body, wings carried low, tail well spread as in a Cubalaya; yet held above the horizontal as is seen most often in the Asil (a fault: but quite prevalent in the breed)

Any thoughts?

Hello Doc  all you can do is experiment - and I wish you lots of luck.
The tail will be the most difficult part :?
Here are some pics from Japan to inspire you

Thanks for the pictures Shamolady! That tail will be hard to replicate, I've never seen it from those angles before it's so much more impressive than the side views convey

The Chinese game would be a good choice. I'm just not sure their tails would add anything that the Cubalaya would not have already done.

Post Re: Satsumadori
I have started my Satsumadori project as well and going at it from a different angle. I crossed my Black Jap over Ga Cua (sent by my friend). I have chicks on the ground and will just have to wait and see what they will eventually look like. Pics of the parent stock:

The lobster tail trait is what I'm after and hopefully their size won't be a factor.
I'm anticipating that this cross will produce larger birds.

I learn something new every time I come on this board. Here's another breed that I never knew existed. I remember when I use to think that the mcmurry catalog was the bible for rare birds.
